How Sugar Kills

How Sugar Kills

For many years, experts have said to limit your sugar intake because sugar is really very damaging to the human body. In these new times, we will even have some cardiologists encouraging patients to embrace healthy fats and ditch the sugar. Research from the World Health Organization has found that adding spoons of sugar to food, plus any sugar that’s already added to foods and drinks (including naturally found sugar) increases your overall energy intake and can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and of course weight gain. In 2013 a study showed that sugar could possibly be linked to cancer. Worse yet, let’s not forget that sugar is linked to tooth decay.

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was not until around the beginning of the 20th-century sugar consumption was actually quite small but has been on the steady increase ever since then. By 1993 more than 110 million tons of sugar was produced globally.

The World Health Organization’s recommends less than six and a half teaspoons of sugar per day. But in most Western societies we consume much more sugar than that. Not only from the sugar that we had to food, but the sugars that are hidden in the foods that we buy in the form of processed foods.

Which countries consume the most sugary drinks? Chile is at the top of the list. Second place goes to Mexico and 3rd place is the USA!
